Finally, thanks for the pointer to DEVONthink, I haven't seen that before. If it ends up being frustrating or not giving me something, I should be able to articulate what it is missing and that should guide my choice for the next solution. Its searching does well for me for other types of things. What I'm going to do for now is keep using Evernote with a bit of structure to my "log entries" land see what type of notes I take for a few weeks. A spreadsheet does seem like a fit for this, until I say that I want to search either by callsign (of person or repeater station), date range, or something in the notes. Regarding the spreadsheet as DB problem.boy, I've suckered myself into that one too many times! The second I think I want another "table" I try to remember I'm not using the right tool for the job.

I'm capable of writing my own, but I do that for a living and already have a software project as part of another hobby so I'm a bit maxed out there for time/effort. If I don't find a dedicated existing package I'll keep using Evernote or build something in a spreadsheet or DB. But I appreciate you all not assuming one way or the other in an effort to be helpful. When it comes to computers and software, I'm very technical. I'm already a dedicated Evernote user and this is what I'm using now for my log book. it's just that all the existing software seems good at only that and I wanted to de-emphasize it. The "actual contact with a person" being last was intentional, but not because I don't value that.

I'm trying to figure out local activity, so I started with a list of local repeaters, the data is pretty dirty, so I need to make notes on which ones are active, how well i receive them, if I hear voice modes or not, etc. Here's the type of things I'd like to track: I'm not interested in QSL cards or contesting right now, just a place to keep a variety of notes.
